Creating a Sleek Navigation with Dropdowns in Squarespace

When it comes to building a website, it's important to create a user-friendly navigation that allows visitors to easily find what they're looking for. One common issue I often come across on self-built Squarespace websites is a long and cluttered navigation bar. Fortunately, Squarespace offers a simple solution to this problem – dropdown menus. In this blog post, I'll guide you through the process of creating dropdowns in your Squarespace navigation, helping you achieve a sleek and streamlined website.

Having a lengthy navigation bar not only makes your website look messy but also effects the user experience. It's crucial to optimise your navigation to make it as efficient as possible.

Let's say you have two services, "Service 1" and "Service 2." Instead of listing them both individually, we can create a dropdown menu that contains these services.

Step 1: Adding a Folder

To create a dropdown menu, go to the Pages section in your Squarespace dashboard and click on the plus sign. Scroll down and select "Folder." This folder will serve as the main dropdown menu in your navigation. Give it an appropriate name that reflects the content it will contain. In this case, we'll name it "Services."

Step 2: Organising Pages

Once you've created the folder, you can start organizing the pages within it. Drag and drop "Service 1" and "Service 2" into the "Services" folder. Rearrange the order of the pages if needed by dragging the folder within the navigation. This way, you have control over how the dropdown menu will appear to visitors.

Step 3: Testing the Dropdown Menu

Now that you've set up the dropdown menu, hover over the "Services" tab in your navigation, and you'll see a dropdown displaying "Service 1" and "Service 2." By using dropdown menus, you've effectively condensed multiple pages into a single, organized option, enhancing the usability of your website.

Conclusion:

By utilising the dropdown menu feature in Squarespace, you can transform a cluttered navigation into a sleek and tidy one. It's essential to ensure that your website is user-friendly and easy to navigate, and dropdown menus are a valuable tool for achieving this goal.
